This blog was my Mother's Day gift...to myself. And though it's not traditional to begin the year on Mother's Day, dang if becoming a mother wasn't the biggest change I've ever experienced. New Year's Eve after New Year's Eve has gone by, and after the festivities, I'm still the same me. But that first Mother's Day, the first one where I was on the receiving end of the special breakfast, the single flower in the vase, the cut-and-paste "collage" from daycare...that was a real transformation.
So I thought I'd start this Mother's Year off with a couple of bloggy resolutions. Of course, I'm no more likely to stick to them than I have the New Year's ones, but with this sort of thing, it's all about that good old listmaking urge I inherited from my own mother. A good list, she taught me, is as good as being halfway done with the job. So here goes.
1. At least four posts a week. This may not seem so much to ask, but I am a teacher, and during the summer, when I'm at home with the Biscuit, I have no Internet access. Therefore, I will have to travel afar to bring the knitting news to you. It's a price I'm sure I'll be willing to pay after eight hours of sandbox time a day.
2. No more projects OTN than four--the number currently in the Needles section on the sidebar. (NB: Baby socks, charity knits, and demo knits for the after-school knitting class I teach do not count towards this number.
3. Here's the doozy. No new yarn until July, when I will attend a knitting conference on a grant from my school. I don't know how well I'll do with this one, as you and you and you are constantly tempting me with your photos and swatches and sales and such. The stash (oh, just you wait) threatens to overtake us all.
And speaking of the stash, here's a bit of fun for you:
These are from the SweetShop: Speed Demon in Rusted (for Thujas) and superwash sock in Velvet Underground and Rainforest. Sock yarn is frighteningly easy to accumulate, and Felicia is always happy to oblige. Anyone have a calendar handy? How long until July?
